You draw at me like currents from somewhere deep in the light. From a place where everything is always true and all the bad you’d ever done or seen or felt or heard, just brushed past your skin.

Like me, a dog’s-lapping at your hand , a silken-supple sibilance like eels as I love you by. Love right past your skin and soul. Will you ever let me love right through it all ? You glisten like distant torches in the deep, beckon my memory to some sunken land . Some kind of Atlantian ruin that could be the closest I’ll ever get to coming home .

If I let you take me into the deep, stay vulnerable for you to keep. Would you? Keep me? -like one hand in the pocket or a pearl or a compass or a dagger of some sort?

Keep me close however you Will. Because there is no braving the brutal chemistry of salt and sere . I’m destined to fall ,into crevices and currents of your open soul , swept away by the viscous filming-over of your light.

Fugitives in Their Land

My people are tearing at their own flesh. Like children tear at scabs. Impatient with the irresistible resistance the skin displays when it reluctantly comes together again . *** The history of South Africa does not fit the mainstream black-and-white narrative that frequents international media and movies like Wakanda . Our history begins in Cape …
